If you want to skip the story and go to the list below for details, please do. I have 4 kids 9 years and younger and it is time to sell. My Alfa baby has occupied garage space for 10+ years, driven 2000 miles. I have owned 4 Alfa’s of this style over 22 years and this one represents post college restoration. I began rebuilding a 76’ Alfetta GT during college. During which time the engine was rebuilt and most of the other components were the best pieces of the other 2 75’ Alfetta’s owned. Unfortunately the 76’ was totaled a month after graduation in 95’, but I kept the wreck.
This 79’ Sprint Veloce was a find 1year later. Again, the best pieces went into the Veloce including the engine. Over the next few years, prior to kids, the restoration began and by 98’ I was driven the car for fun. Fortunately the 79’ body was in excellent condition so preparing it for paint was not very difficult. Dealing with the typical rust around the taillights and windows was expected. A burgundy color was selected and the body shop did a great job painting, it still looks wonderful today. Just a few scratches here and there. In 99’ the Veloce was clipped in the front end. The same body shop fixed the damage with a new front grill, headlights, right front finder, and other minor misc. pieces. The repair is not noticeable other than the new fender has the sunken in marker light verses the Veloce finder topside mount. The last 8 years has pretty much been garage time; kids starting coming along, I had a house for a project, etc. I really do hate to part with this Alfa but the practical engineer in me knows it is time.
DETAILS
This model has a sliding moon roof. Odometer 94k miles, which I am confident is correct for the body.
Engine: 116 Series 2000cc 4 cyl. Rebuild with less than 7000 miles. Piston liner set upgrade to 10.4:1. Strong running and hardly leaks a drop of oil. Spica fuel injection system with a manual cold start retrofit. Dual points ignition (needs new advancing springs for better idle). I drove the car the other day for the 1st time in near a year, started right up and drove great.
Other Details: It is hard to recall them all but here goes; new brake cable, fresh brakes (mostly rebuilt), new distributor cap, wires, and plugs. Nice Sony speakers with cassette player. Rear hatch deck excellent condition. Roof liner has no tears just stained. Carpet original and in good condition. Wood steering wheel refinished with new horn components. Door panels redone and all windows operate fine. Car had A/C but I really never intended to repair, car has always been just a Sunday driver. This Veloce came from California but has been in the South ever since, under body in great condition. Exhaust repaired and tight. Clutch was replaced when the engine was rebuilt, less than 7k miles. Drive shaft yokes and mounts are new and the difficult work of fitting for balancing was done. Premium alloy Alfa rims (15" Ronal A5714.024) with Goodyear P195/60R15 (tread ok). Chrome trim excellent condition.
Items needing repair: Rear hatch strut. Hatch badge missing. Distributor advancing springs. Front seats have covers and are different from the bucket seats. Driver visor clip broken. Rear bumper rusting from within. This is not a complete list of items for repair if someone desired to show restore this Alfa.
I’ve attempted to be as honest and forthright about this vehicle, email with additional questions. The sell will be "As Is" and buyer will be solely responsible for picking up the vehicle. A down payment of $500 will be expected within the 48hrs of bid awarding. The remaining amount due at pick-up (if not paid at bid awarding) of a certified method.
Thank You and good luck bidding!!
