The Alfa Romeo Alfetta is a rear-wheel drive executive saloon car and fastback coupé produced from 1972 until 1984 by Alfa Romeo.
It was popular due to its combination of a modest design with powerful engines, selling over 400,000 units until the end of its production run, but in the final years its sales were down due to Alfa Romeo's reliability problems that plagued the company through the late 1970s and early 1980s.
The Sedan had a body designed by Centro Stile Alfa Romeo, and the Alfetta GTV coupe (not to be confused with the more recent 1995 Alfa Romeo GTV), was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. The Alfetta introduced a new drivetrain layout to the marque. Clutch and transmission were housed at the rear of the car, together with the differential for a more balanced weight distribution, as used on the Alfetta 158/159 Grand Prix cars. The suspension relied on double wishbones and torsion bars at the front and a de Dion beam at the rear. The Alfetta was renewed in 1979 with a revised frontend, new wheel rims and new lights, as well as a diesel version.

The 2000cc twin overhead cam four-cylinder four-door Alfetta was sold in the USA from 1975 through 1977 under the name Alfetta Sedan. From 1978 to 1979 a mildly restyled version was sold under the name Sport Sedan. The coupe was available from 1975 to 1977 under the moniker Alfetta GT Finally, the V-6 version was marketed from 1981 to 1986 as the GTV-6.
The Alfa Romeo Alfetta became well known throughout the world since it was Italian Prime Minister Aldo Moro's official escort car, when, in 1978, he was first kidnapped, then killed, by the Italian Terrorist left-wing organization The Red Brigades. A fictionalised account of these events was produced as a critically well regarded Italian film, The Advocate, which also heavily featured Alfettas of all types, from Carabinieri 'Short Nose-Round Light' through to the Prime Minister's own 'Long Nose-Square Light' 2000 Super Saloon.

Has lots of power and will pass CA smog test. The gent I got this
Alfa Sport Sedan said he spent lots of time + money to get it
to run right as it had a 'serious' stalling problem I found out problem
was 1 fuel pump circuit terminal w/ poor contact
Says it has pre'74 'S' cams on it. Sounds feels that way but
not planning to pull v/cover off just to verify. Recent catalytic converter change;
Car rides and handles great, rides encouragingly stiff but not kidney-belt
harsh [sports-bra needing perhaps]
Ride height is -1.7"/45mm from stock; stance looks nice
Racing semi-gas Koni shocks used perhaps only on deDion transaxle Alfa's;
Suspension is in unabused condition freeways/highways/smooth backroads
most it's 143k mile lifeElectricals all seem to work;
original tuxedo black paint polished out nicely. Could use 1 more buff and wax:
detailer removed thick layers of road grime but was careful not to
cut/swab much paint off. A big scrub mark on rt rear door but not any
major dents. drivers door armrest split; pictures taken before interior was
treated w/ any foofoo shiny Will add more pictures when Alfetta's back from muffler shop
Reserve price is lower than expected or deserved.
All in all a pretty good complete, well sorted car
Want to keep this Alfa for me or one of my galpals
perhaps someone else deserves it more.

Car is stored 4 miles from SFO Intl. Airport
Took the car to muffler shop today AM, took some pictures
had the Alfa Guy inspect car, Tig weld 2 leaks @ couplings,

hanger mounts; no rust/corrosion anywhere underneath except
slight haze on some areas; brown coloring on underbody
[see pictures] are dirt or Waxol coat from Alfa factory
pictures show the 2 worst rusted areas on the whole car;
spent most it's life in mild north inland California climate.
Driveshaft front and middle flex discs, center support changed
3000 mi ago; rear flex disc will need to be replaced within next
4000 mi: it is center-flange support type, so not going to
blow up or fly apart as it gets worse.
The rear disc brake pads have 50% left.
Front pads +fluid will be replaced, shift linkage housing reset
[as a chore to get into 5th], other clean-up and
minor tweaks are to be done Mon6Oct08.
As a footnote:
The Guila Super and Ti are now mid-high $ teens, Berlina sedans going up fast, and the 164 is FWD
Most euro cars of '75-'80 vintage [1st decade of 'smog equipped' compliance] are unloved.
The Alfetta Sport Sedans look good, handle real nice [50/50 weight distribution, arguably the best
handling of Alfa Romeo's], are actually easy to maintain once sorted and you get past the intimidation factor.
